"Heredity is what sets the parents of a teenager wondering about each other." – Laurence J. Peter

You may have inherited your genes, but you are not defined by them. Thanks to the science of epigenetics, we now understand that lifestyle choices can influence gene expression, either turning health-promoting genes on or silencing harmful ones. This means that aging is not fixed, and you have more power over your health than ever imagined. Your DNA might load the gun, but your lifestyle pulls the trigger on many of the so-called aging-associated disorders.

Three Epigenetic Actions for Healthy Aging

1. Eat a Longevity-Supportive Diet
Focus on low carb eating with colorful vegetables, whole foods, healthy fats and proteins, and polyphenols (e.g., olive oil, green tea). These nutrients influence genes that regulate inflammation and cellular repair.

2. Move Daily
Exercise doesn’t just strengthen muscles—it activates anti-aging genes. Even 20–30 minutes a day can make a difference. Stand rather than sitting. Focus on maintaining a healthy posture.

3. Manage Stress
Chronic stress alters gene expression and accelerates biological aging. Practice daily relaxation through breathwork, meditation, or just taking walks in nature.

You may be born with certain genetic predispositions—but how you live each day determines whether those genes are expressed. Your DNA is not your destiny.
