Lutein and zeaxanthin: blocking UV light

Apr 25, 2021 | Wellness

Blue light from computers, tablets, phones, television and UV rays from that gorgeous sunlight – all can cause oxidative damage to your eyes. Don’t watch a lot of TV but I spend a lot of time on my computer and phone. I need to protect my eyes.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are two carotenoid antioxidants that help protect the cells of your macula from this damage. I get lutein and zeaxanthin from my diet of dark leafy greens, asparagus, brussel sprouts, almonds, pecans, eggs and salmon. I also take a supplement (based on the AREDS2 study), which supplies zinc, copper, selenium and vitamins C and E as well as lutein and zeaxanthin.

This video shows how effective this eye formula is in blocking transmission of UV light. For fun I tried the same experiment with my laser pointer and a capsule of eye formula dissolved in water. Worked like a charm.
