“People tell me ‘you’re not the same person that I was 20 years ago’ and I say good! I don’t want to be that same person, I want to grow” – Darlene Shearer
One of the key pillars of Growing Older Living Younger is titled “Choose a Challenge”. To grow better, in mind or body, we need constant challenges whether learning, adventuring, or making a lifestyle change for better health.
One such challenge that may appeal to those retiring or contemplating moving from a job to working for themselves is becoming an entrepreneur.
Thomas Edison said “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.’
In this podcast, I introduce you to an energetic and vibrant woman who did not miss the opportunity and made the switch from a job, to being her own boss, more than 30 years ago.
Darlene Shearer is an entrepreneur who, over the past 3 decades has built and run a global business in health, beauty, and anti-aging. As the first Team Elite in Canada, she has mentored and trained new entrepreneurs of diverse ages, backgrounds and cultures. Darlene has more energy, optimism, and passion for life than many who are decades younger than her and she has been a source of inspiration and a mentor for Dr. Gill, since she chose to start her own entrepreneurial business on her 70th birthday. Darlene believes that a meaningful life means living a life that contributes to others and that growth and learning should be a lifelong pursuit.
- Opportunities are missed because they often look like a lot of work
- You’ll see more opportunities if you open your mind and don’t prejudge
- Whenever you’re met with hindrances, focus on the end-goal
